Passion for your business

Passion plays a large part in your business. Passion gives you the drive and the conviction to see your enterprise grow.
When you love what you are doing – it shows to everyone. In order to prove this point – I interviewed a diversity of entrepreneurs, deal makers and educators and built an online library to archive their answers. (www.NewFrontier.ning.com ). Each and every one of my interviews lead to the same conclusion – Passion Leads to Profit. In all case studies – passion played a key role in driving a person to be successful.
Let’s take a look at some of the results of my quest. I started locally in Spain, with a deal maker for whom I have known and worked with over the years. Steve Hall is a UK born European. Currently living in Spain (Torrevieja), Steve has focused his energies on the communications end of enterprise since leaving his UK-based university in 1978. Steve spends most of his time promoting his products and services online. When asked in my interview, what drove him to get out of bed each morning and hit the computer for the day, he replied, “If I don’t BELIEVE in a product / service / company I can’t get “passionate” and won’t promote it or them. I am always looking for ways for people to explore the options that the internet offers everyone. The “cash-till” is NOT the preserve of the ex “state-owned” utility monopolies or Google, Yahoo, MSN etc. I am especially keen to promote products where we take on the “big boys”.
My next interview took me across the pond, as we say, to a husband and wife entrepreneur team. Twenty years ago, Jim and Vaughn Quince had a passion to go “green” and set up a business solution to tackle the toxic task of “waste disposal”, based around Michigan, which is a highly industrialized state in the Great Lakes region of the USA. It was their passion for a clean planet that drove them to launch their enterprise. Jim explains, “The environmental business is driven by public laws and enforcements, but it is also driven by individuals – wanting to do the right thing. Our business started with a wave of underground storage tank removals in 1989, as well as environmental audits of properties. Our passion was in understanding the technical requireents and laws – in a time when there was a very high demand for knowledge, but little supply.”
My following interview was with a British national, London-based “guru” who has been in the training sector for six years – teaching sales management and referral marketing. His passion comes to play when his students start to spark, and suddenly they are able to realize their convictions with clarity, a purpose and a timescale. “Where does my passion stem from you ask? Simple. I love seeing the light bulbs go on in my clients’ eyes. We rehearse the situation and find a way for them to move a sale forward and get the result they want. When they come back and share their war story, only they got paid more than they expected over a longer term with cross sells, upsells and having the most fun they’ve ever had in business along the way … that’s a thrill.”
My final interview was with a dedicated singer, songwriter, musician and artist, Randall Rospond, a Canadian like me, who moved to Maui, and continues to work his magic. His dedication spans twenty-five years and it is all driven by his passion. He explains, “I have always been passionate about music and art. So, for me to make the shift into calling it my “work” was easy. I just started to get paid, so that I could leave behind other work, which held no interest to my own nature.”
