Back in December 2005, Slim K signed on to work on a very unique project called "DESPERATE" (featuring Slim Khezri playing FATE), a compelling graphic-novelization (that is to say, fancy comic book/ estimated to be about 270 pages) of the screenplay in an effort to help potential investors understand and appreciate the look and feel of the film that is going to be developed into a feature film.
The photo shoot took place in Hollywood, Melrose, Los Angeles downtown and Glendale (California) - the shoot continued until Feb. 2006.
The original screenplay is written by the film's director, David Henri (THE ISLAND, THE HULK, MINORITY REPORT, WHAT WOMEN WANT, DAYLIGHT, DRAGONHEART etc ...), and is being produced by ©Emmy Award winner Chris Cundey (PETER PAN, GARFIELD, JURASSIC PARK III, BATMAN BEGINS, THE HULK etc..) and Bryce Shields (Batman Begins, Garfield, Hidalgo, Team America: World Police, The Punisher, Gigli, The Time Machine etc..).
Acclaimed cinematographer Dean Cundey (The Fog, Escape from New York, The Thing, Psycho II, Back to the Future trilogy, Roger Rabbit, Hook, The Flintstones, Apollo 13, Jurassic IV [: The Extinction] etc ...) will be the Director of Photography.
"DESPERATE" is a smart, surreal tale populated with interesting and quirky characters who roam a frozen City of Angels with purpose and humor.
The project is currently in active development and is slated to begin principal photography sometime 2008. The Book is so far finalized, CHECK HERE Photos!!!! * BEHIND THE SCENES look of the photoshoot at Hollywood's Roosevelt Hotel of Dave Henri's "DESPERATE". (2006)video clips: HERE and HERE

"FINALLY!
The graphic novel proofs arrived last week and they looked great. Chris and I confirmed everything this afternoon and we placed the order for copies for every cast and crew member this evening.
The printing time is 3-5 days, then about a week for shipment to us. It should be another 3 or so days for shipping from us to you.
Basically, you should expect a copy of the graphic novel in your mailbox in 2-3 weeks.
To that end, could you please email me your current address? I want to be sure that it goes to the right place.
Please remember that the story deals with adult themes in a sometimes frank nature. This book is, for lack of a better term, rated R.
The final book is 269 pages long. It covers most, but not all, of the screenplay. There are scenes missing, and a brief explanation of the missing story is inserted where needed.
We are excited that the book is finally finished and we are looking forward to using it as a good marketing tool. In fact, Chris and I will be attending the American Film Market next month, with several copies in tow!
Thank you all again for your hard work and your patience! I'm really looking forward to getting you your copies!
Best, Dave"

"Hey everyone,
Time for the latest update. First off, we had yet another little delay -- an external hard drive crashed.
I didn't lose any Desperate data, but I lost some time.
Nonetheless, the graphic novel finally appears to be complete! I have just placed an expedited order through the publisher for the proof. If everything comes out well -- and there's no reason not to!
-- I will have the copy in 5-7 days (3-5 days for printing, 2 days for shipping).
If the proof is what we are hoping and expecting, I'll approve the book immediately and order copies for everyone!
Once again, I appreciate everyone's patience. Fingers crossed that .. it is worth the wait!
I'll let you know as soon as the proof copy has arrived.
Cheers, Dave"

"Hello Everyone! I'm writing with another update, and, hopefully, this one will not be reversed by my newfound mortal enemies at the online publishing house. I have just ordered a copy of Volume 1 and of Volume 2 of DESPERATE: The Graphic Novel. If the orders arrive in good condition, and if there are no changes to be made, I will be able to order copies for everyone within about a week! I am extremely excited that this part of the process is finally coming to a close, and I'm really looking forward to getting the graphic novel "out there" for potential investors to see. I have attached a few jpgs from the book for you to get an idea of how the finished product will look. In order to keep this email relatively small, I did not pull enough pages to feature each character. I hope this gives you an idea at least of what the final product will look like. Finally, I have to apologize once again for how incredibly long this process has taken. I know many of you are frustrated or even angry at the months that have gone by since you worked on the project without seeing anything. Though I have sent out several emails over the past few months, I know I could have done a better job of keeping you informed on the latest developments (or lack thereof). Unfortunately, the problem with breaking new ground (I don't think anyone has ever attempted a graphic novel photo shoot based on a feature film script!) is that there are often unforeseeable problems -- both creatively and technically. Creatively, the creation of the book took at least twice as long as we projected. Technically, the issues with the programs, then with the publisher have been daunting. Each time I've had to re-render the PDF of the graphic novel, the computing time alone was nearly a day. The upload to the publisher would take a half day at least, and that's if it went through without errors (which was rare). Once the upload was complete, we'd get new error messages from the publisher and have to begin the whole process all over again. During all of this, I've had to start working on a new TV show (The Nine - premiering on ABC this Fall after Lost) in order to pay bills and mortgage. This is a huge strain on my time available for the graphic novel. I'm not listing these things as excuses, but rather as bits of explanation -- they're the little things that add up to big delays. Through it all, though, I should have done a better job keeping you informed of what was going on. And I am sorry about that. Hopefully, the delays are behind us. If all goes well, I should be placing a big order for the graphic novels in the next 7-10 days. If that's not the case, I'll be sure to write again and let you know why. I hope you are all doing well and I can't tell you how much I look forward to getting you your copy of the completed 2-volume set! Best, Dave Henri"

"Hi All!
It's been a month since I last emailed you all. At that time, the graphic novel had been finished for about 6 weeks, but we were having difficulty actually uploading it to the printer (and they would not accept it via mail).
Well, the technical hurdles have finally been cleared!
Earlier this week we were able to successfully upload the huge (2GB) file to the printer. Tonight, I have ordered the proof copy. We should get that copy within the next 7-10 days. We'll probably need to make some minor changes, but we look forward to ordering everyone's copy within the next 3 weeks.
I want to thank you again for your trust and your patience. This has been a far longer ordeal than any of us had ever anticipated. However, we are confident that the technical problems are now solved and we're finally within reach of getting the final product.
I look forward to getting these out to each of you soon, and I will be sure to keep you up to date as we receive the proof, make changes, and order the final copies!
In the meantime, cheer for the US Mens National Team in the World Cup on Saturday (against Italy)!! They need all the help they can get!!
Cheers, Dave Henri"

"Hello Everyone!
I wanted to drop you a line with an update of where we are with "Desperate" right now.
I completed the first draft of the graphic novel about six weeks ago. Since that time, however, we have been plagued with technical issues trying to get the book properly formatted and uploaded to our online publisher. We are still battling with these issues today, but I think we are very close to having the problems solved. We might even be able to get a proof copy of the graphic novel sometime next week. (A few of you had enquired about things two weeks ago, and my answer was pretty much the same -- this is frustrating, but I think we are actually pretty close now to figuring this out). The main issue is basically the size of the file that needs to be uploaded.
As most of you know, we still have not shot the entire screenplay yet. Once we get our proof copy from the printers; Chris, Bryce, Michelle and I will sit down to discuss whether additional photography will be required, or if the book in its current form will serve our purposes. We will be sure to let you know as soon as we have reached a decision.
If we feel the book in its present form is indeed the final version, we will immediately order copies for each of you (plus more for our potential investors -- the original purpose of the project).
Technical issues aside, I am very pleased with how the book has come out. I think we shot a lot of great material and everyone looks fantastic. I'm sorry and embarrassed that it is taking so long to complete the project, but I hope that you understand the delays and will eventually feel that the final product was worth the wait.
In the meantime, I hope all is well with each of you and I look forward to seeing you all again soon!
Cheers, Dave Henri"[/i] Dave Henri (director) May 18th 2006[/sup] "DESPERATE" updates: March 9th 2006

"Hi all!
I wanted to drop you a quick line to let you know how things are progressing with "Desperate", which is, basically, pretty good!
I'm not quite halfway through the story, but the graphic novel is already over 100 pages. The work is going a little slower than I had hoped, basically because I've had to go back to work a few days a week to keep all the bills paid! Luckily, especially with this being pilot season, there's plenty of work available (I do on-set computer and video playback). I'm trying to keep it down to 3 days a week so that I can continue to make progress on the Graphic Novel. So far, that's working nicely.
I also wanted to let you know that if you haven't received a CD of images yet, they will be coming in the next few weeks. I'm pulling together a compilation of shots for each of you as I move through the script. To stop work on the Graphic Novel in order to build everyone's CDs would take too long, especially when I can't work on it full time. If you have a pressing need for something, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll continue to work in this manner.
We've also had a few meetings this month with various financing people and things are looking hopeful. We could have exciting news even before the Graphic Novel is completed, but it's impossible to say for sure!
Anyway, I hope you are all doing well! Once again, I appreciate everyone's hard work and your patience as we work towards finishing the book (which, right now, looks like it could be 250-300 pages when it is finally done)!
Cheers, Dave"[/i] Dave Henri (director) March 9th 2006[/sup] February 22nd 2005Work (once again) successfully wrapped on David Henri's "DESPERATE".
In less than 5 days (the first week of Feb.), 5200 pictures in 20 locations were shot [Slim K worked at the Melrose Lightspace (Los Angeles), Griffith Manor Park (Glendale), downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel (Hollywood)]!!
This is in addition to a couple thousand pics back in December 2005, and there's more to come down the road in aprox. 6 weeks the final shots are set!.
This weekend, the process of sorting through the photos has begun, Dave Henri is very pleased with what he captured.
He's very excited about putting the book together and looking forward to sharing the finished product with all of the cast members and production team!
