Slim K is set to join Tony Shalhoub (MONK) star in the Arab-American drama AmericanEast
( to hit theaters in 2007).
The feature, directed by Hesham Issawi, examines misunderstandings about Arab culture, highlighting the pressures under which many Arab-Americans live today in a post 9/11.
"Our goal was really to show other people that we are no different from them," said Issawi. "To do that we focused on one normal guy, who just happens to be a Muslim, and we show what kind of pressure these external forces can have on a person who's simply trying to carry on."
Kais Nashef (Paradise Now) and Sayed Badreya (Egyptian-born filmmaker and actor realized a childhood dream when he won roles as an actor in major films such as “The Insiders”, “Three Kings” and “Stargate”.) star in the project as well, which begins shooting this July (2006) in Los Angeles.
