According to sources close to the actor, he died suddenly on Sunday. News of his death is just being reported publicly. His family will make an announcement today (Monday) at the earliest.
Reports are that he died while in coma after going into Cardiac Arrest on Sunday, October 10th 2004.
Reeve was being treated at Northern Westchester Hospital for a pressure wound that he developed, a common complication for people with paralysis.
In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection.
"On behalf of POP! mania team and my entire family, I want to thank Northern Westchester Hospital for the excellent care they provided to my husband," Dana Reeve, his widow, said in a statement.
"I also want to thank his personal staff of nurses and aides, as well as the millions of fans from around the world who have supported and loved my husband over the years."
Feel free to post your thoughts in the "Comments" link below, and I will attempt to get them passed on to his family.
We're encouraging everyone to wear a Superman t-shirt today as a tribute to Chris.---------- from CNN News: BEDFORD, New York (AP) -- Christopher Reeve, the star of the "Superman" movies whose near-fatal riding accident nine years ago turned him into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research, died Sunday of heart failure, his publicist said. He was 52. Reeve fell into a coma Saturday after going into cardiac arrest while at his New York home, his publicist, Wesley Combs, told The Associated Press by phone from Washington, D.C., on Sunday night.
Reeve was being treated at Northern Westchester Hospital for a pressure wound that he developed, a common complication for people living with paralysis. In the past week, the wound had become severely infected, resulting in a serious systemic infection.
"On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank Northern Westchester Hospital for the excellent care they provided to my husband," Dana Reeve, Christopher's wife, said in a statement. "I also want to thank his personal staff of nurses and aides, as well as the millions of fans from around the world who have supported and loved my husband over the years."
Reeve broke his neck in May 1995 when he was thrown from his horse during an equestrian competition in Culpeper, Virginia.
Enduring months of therapy to allow him to breathe for longer and longer periods without a respirator, Reeve emerged to lobby Congress for better insurance protection against catastrophic injury and to move an Academy Award audience to tears with a call for more films about social issues.
He returned to directing, and even returned to acting in a 1998 production of "Rear Window," a modern update of the Alfred Hitchthingy thriller about a man in a wheelchair who becomes convinced a neighbor has been murdered. Reeve won a Screen Actors Guild award for best actor in a television movie or miniseries.
"I was worried that only acting with my voice and my face, I might not be able to communicate effectively enough to tell the story," Reeve said. "But I was surprised to find that if I really concentrated, and just let the thoughts happen, that they would read on my face. With so many close-ups, I knew that my every thought would count."
In his public appearances, he was as handsome as ever, his blue eyes bright and his voice clear.
"Hollywood needs to do more," he said in the March 1996 Oscar awards appearance. "Let's continue to take risks. Let's tackle the issues. In many ways our film community can do it better than anyone else. There is no challenge, artistic or otherwise, that we can't meet."
In 2000, Reeve was able to move his index finger, and a specialized workout regimen has made his legs and arms stronger. He has also regained sensation in other parts of his body.

April 29, 2005: Excellent Video Footage from Set of “Superman Returns”On April 16th, when the set of "Superman Returns" took over some streets in the middle of Sydney, I sat at a cafe that was right on the barrier of the set as filming with Brandon Routh took place. As you'll recall, my April 16th report included questions I put to Bryan Singer as he ventured over to chat with the fans who looked on. At the table right next to me sat a guy called James, who with his video camera, captured much of what we spoke about, as well as grabbing other great footage of Brandon, the set, the extras, costumes, props, etc... April 30, 2005: Jackman Not Jonathan Kent'MovieHole' are reporting that the rumor that Hugh Jackman had been cast to play the role of Jonathan Kent in "Superman Returns" is untrue. Hugh Jackman is not part of the "Superman Returns" cast. Moviehole checked in with those in the know who confirmed that it's rubbish. "Jackman has been hanging around Bryan Singer because they're friends - and Jackman's in town at the moment".

May 1st, 2005: Marlon Brando's Role in “Superman Returns”Barry Freiman has written an indepth article titled "Phoning It In From 30 Years Ago", which speculates on the possible Marlon Brando footage that might be used in "Superman Returns". While filming on 2006's "Superman Returns" began early in 2005, one actor completed all of his work for the movie almost 30 years ago. Director Bryan Singer has announced plans to incorporate footage shot in 1977 of late actor Marlon Brando as Superman's Kryptonian father, Jor-El. A voice from the past playing the part of a voice from the past. Marlon Brando "Is Kevin Spacey in Australia?" On April 27th AintItCoolNews posted a report from a fan who lives in the Sydney suburb of Longueville and came across a location shoot for "Superman Returns". He noted items labelled "Lex Luthor", and guessed that Kevin Spacey may have been on set. It's highly unlikely that Kevin Spacey is in Australia yet, as he's scheduled to appear on stage in London on Tuesday (May 3rd) at the Old Vic Theatre. Superman fan "Rastar", visited Longueville and emailed us this report... After reading about the location shoot in Longueville yesterday, I decided to go and look for any signs of the crew today. I drove around the area and very quickly came upon a couple of Thrifty Rental trucks parked in front of a large, restored mansion, on Northwood Road in Longueville (near Fleming Street). It was clear that filming had concluded and they were removing any props and sets that were installed for filming on Wednesday and Thursday. I asked a guy loading a van and he confirmed filming had ended there. The story that "Ain't It Cool News" ran, suggested Kevin Spacey might have been there for filming, but there was no way to confirm that today. If he is still in England doing his stage show, then perhaps the van with "Lex Luthor" on it was just that - a van with a sign on it and nothing more.

MEET THE NEW 'SUPERMAN'!! the new Superman: Brandon RouthSome might say the new Superman Brandon Routh is growing into his role remarkably well. The all-new film sequel, provisionally titled Superman Returns, is not out until next year but this sneak preview of Routh, 25, in his superhero costume, shows that he carries off the look with style. Muscled Routh does not need any fake padding to fill out his skin-tight costume. Director Bryan Singer says Superman's heroism depends on his extraordinary physique. "With X-Men, although they had extraordinary powers, they also had physical weaknesses," he said. "The suits were for protection as well as costume. Superman is the Man of Steel. Bullets bounce off him, not his suit." Singer wanted to keep " something classic" about the new Superman and remain faithful to the Max Fleischer cartoons of the Forties and the Reeve films. So the cape, body suit and tights stay but diehard fans, however, will notice that colours are darker and the 'S' insignia is slightly smaller and higher and added to the belt buckle. The Brandon Routh fansite just received the official Superman Returns synopsis today. So, without further ado, here is the synopsis for Superman Returns: Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel comes back to Earth in the epic action-adventure Superman Returns, a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world's most beloved superheroes. While an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all, Superman faces the heartbreaking realization that the woman he loves, Lois Lane, has moved on with her life. Or has she? Superman's bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.
